Hostas planted in 2000 This year I put in a driveway/patio so that I could get to the back yard easily, and, at first, all 200 tons would float after a bad rain.  So ... we installed more drainage around its perimeter.  It doesn't float much any more, just sufficiently to heal itself from major divots by big trucks and front loaders.
